Over 10 million Passengers Affected by Ash Crisis

The European Union is working on ways to help airlines recover from the volcanic ash crisis; a series of short term relief measures to relieve the financial pressure on carriers has been outlined. EU transport commissioner Slim Kallas has stressed that air passenger rights provided by EU law remain fully applicable.

FCO news - Thailand

FCO advises against all but essential travel to the whole of Thailand. This advice does not apply to passengers transiting Bangkok airport on their way to foreign destinations. The entire BTS Sky train service has been suspended in Bangkok causing major disruption.

EUROSTAR’S New Class of Service

The new class of service, Standard premier, goes on sale from 5th May for travel from 1st September 2010. Standard premier will be the mid range product, replacing Leisure Select. It will offer the freedom to work in quiet spacious surroundings. This class will offer a light catering service option and provide some flexibility through a combination of restricted and semi-flexible fares with exchange and refund fees.

Hertz drives Off with DollarThrifty

Hertz is taking over smaller rival Dollar Thrifty in a deal worth $1.2 billion. The take over will give hertz more than 1,550 extra rental locations worldwide, resulting in a combined total of almost 10,000. At least $108 million in cost savings has been identified.

JAL to Slash International Network

Japan Airlines is slashing its international network by 40%, retiring aircraft and closing a number of overseas offices. Flights on 15 international routes will be withdrawn from the end of September; these include services to Amsterdam, Rome, Milan, Sao Paulo, Brisbane and Bali from Tokyo’s Narita airport.
