Continental Airlines is the newest member of the Star Alliance network, the largest airline alliance in the world. London Hotels Suffer in Reputation Rating

Hotels in London have the worst reputation among travellers across Europe, a new study shows. The results were brought together in a Reputation Ranking by hotel price comparison website "trivago" based on 2.7 million hotel reviews for 13,000 hotels in 50 European cities. Best was Dresden with destinations such as Amsterdam, Copenhagen and London being the worst, Edinburgh had the best reputation in the UK, in 29th place.

Emirates Profit Surges

Emirates has produced a set of half-year financial results that will be the envy of many other international airlines. Emirates produced a net profit of $205 million for the first six months of its current financial year representing a 165% improvement compared to the same period in 2008. In the first-half of its financial year 2009-10, Emirates said it posted strong business growth, both in terms of capacity on offer and traffic compared to the corresponding period in 2008, a performance that has been in stark contrast to the current trend seen across the aviation industry.

BMI: We are not in a Financial Crisis

BMI was forced to issue a statement this week insisting it was a going concern after a report by the Times claimed it might not be able to continue beyond next year. The airline said its directors and auditors believed it would be able to meet its financial obligations and had adequate resources to continue in operational existence in the future.

New Transatlantic Flights Planned

Low cost carrier Iceland Express is to fly to New York, Akureyri, Birmingham and Stansted by next summer. Flights from Reykjavik's Keflavik International Airport to New York Newark International Airport will run four times a week from June 1 next year. A weekly connection between Birmingham and Keflavik will start the same month together with weekly flights between Gatwick and Iceland's second city - Akureyri.
