City owner tipped to buy Gatwick for £1.6bn
London City airport's owner is believed to be on the verge of buying Gatwick from BAA. According to reports this week, Global Infrastructure Partners, a joint venture between Credit Suisse and General Electric, is favourite to close a deal and could pay just short of the CAA's £1.6 billion valuation.

Qatar pioneers "green fuel" commercial flight
Qatar Airways operated the first commercial flight using pioneering gas-to-liquid technology this week. The Gatwick-Doha flight used technology developed by Qatar Petroleum and Shell.

Eurostar sees "bottoming out" of business travel slump
Eurostar has reported a marginal sales recovery during the third quarter of the year. The high-speed Channel Tunnel passenger rail service said overall sales revenue was up 6.8% on the same period last year. Chief executive Richard Brown said that whilst the economic climate remains difficult there are signs that the worst might be over for the business market.

Luxury hotel room costs "on the slide"
Luxury hotel rooms are becoming more affordable as rates tumble, according to a new study. The average cost of top-end rooms around the world is on the slide, q hotel price index from Hotels.com shows. The list of cities where UK travellers' cash goes furthest includes top European cities of Lisbon, Pisa, Warsaw, Prague and Tallin as well as further-flung cities including Melbourne, Mexico City, Sao Paulo and Toronto.

Executive Travel is a member) has retained its Investors in People (IIP) status for a further three years, following a regular review by official assessors.First awarded IIP status in 2006, the independent agents' consortium was commended for having "solid aims and objectives which are delegated to teams and individuals" as well as engaging staff in regular dialogue with the CEO and members of the management team encouraging open and transparent communication.

Heathrow Third Runway - in Birmingham
Birmingham Airport has put itself forward as a "practically instantaneous" way to reduce the pressure on Heathrow amid debate over a proposed third runway at the London hub. Another 9 million passengers could be accommodated at Birmingham within the existing infrastructure. Birmingham also claims to be the only airport with a significant planning consent for a runway extension already agreed. "Around 50% of the UK population is less than a two-hour drive from Birmingham. High speed rail could bring them much nearer, with central London only 40 minutes away.
