Birmingham may gain Athens Link
Greek charter carrier Hellenic Imperial Airways is in negotiations with Birmingham International airport about starting its first flight from the UK. The carrier plans to start a Birmingham-Athens service this spring, which would connect to a service to Jeddah from the Greek capital, flights would leave at 6pm with fares starting from £199.00 plus tax return to Athens and £350.00 plus tax to Jeddah.

Added Value Rail Carnet with National express East Coast
Train operation National Express East Coast is upgrading its discount deal for frequent business travellers. The Business Carnet deal previously offered ten First or Standard Class fully flexible tickets for the price of nine, on selected journeys to or from London, and this has now been boosted further for a limited period to offer ten tickets for the price of eight. The deal is available until July 3 with tickets valid for 3 months from purchase.

Continental switch from Skyteam to Star Alliance
Continental Airlines will leave the sky team alliance led by Delta and air France on October 24 and hopes to assume Star Alliance membership the following day. The switch will be the first time an airline has defected from one major alliance to another.

The European Commission's updated "blacklist" of airlines banned from operating within European air space still includes Indonesian flag carrier Garuda. The full list can be viewed online at the following link :

Dubai Snaps up Olympic Airlines
Dubai-Backed Marfin Investment Group has paid Euros 177 million for Greece's failing flag-carrier Olympic Airlines. Rival carrier Aegean Airlines had offered Euros !70 million. The deal, which still has to be rubber-stamped by the European Commission, will come as welcome relief for Greek taxpayers, who have had to fork our more than Euros 2 billion over the past 10 years to keep Olympic flying.
